Apple Called Android a ‘Massive Tracking Device,’ Internal Docs Reveal

It’s no secret that Apple has a dim view of the Android operating system, but the company has reportedly been privately referring to it as a “massive tracking device” as far back as Janury 2013, according to a leaked company presentation. Redaction or sanitization is the process of removing sensitive information from a document so that it may be distributed to a broader audience. It is intended to allow the selective disclosure of information. Typically, the result is a document that is suitable for publication or for dissemination to others rather than the intended audience of the original document.

The presentation, which was disclosed in the US vs. Google antitrust case, shows that Apple strategized about using Google’s privacy woes early on as a marketing tactic to lure consumers away from Android to iOS.
